Chapter 3
1 And Eliashib the high priest rose up, with his brothers the priests, and they built the Sheep Gate. They sanctified it and set up its doors, and they sanctified it as far as the Tower of the Hundred, to the Tower of Hananel. 2 Next to him the men of Jericho built, and next to him Zaccur son of Imri built. 3 The sons of Hassenaah built the Fish Gate. They walled it up and set up its doors, its locks, and its bars. 4 And next to them Meremoth son of Uriah son of Hakkoz strengthened it. And next to them Meshullam son of Berechiah son of Meshezabel strengthened it. And next to them Zadok son of Baana strengthened it. 5 And the Tekoites strengthened their hand, and their nobles did not bend their neck to the service of their lords. 6 And Jehoiada son of Paseah and Meshullam son of Besodeiah strengthened the Old Gate. They paneled it and set up its doors, its locks, and its bars. 7 And Melatiah the Gibeonite and Jadon the Meronothite, men of Gibeon and Mizpah, strengthened their hand to the throne of the provincial governor beyond the River. 8 Next to him Uzziel son of Harhaiah, of the goldsmiths, held fast, and next to him Hananiah son of the perfumers held fast, and they restored Jerusalem up to the Broad Wall. 9 And Rephaiah son of Hur, ruler of half the district of Jerusalem, strengthened them. 10 And alongside them Ben-Harumpf strengthened the hand opposite his house. And alongside him Hattush son of Hasbanyah strengthened the hand. 11 A second section Melchiah son of Harim strengthened, and Hashabiah son of the Governor of Moab, and the Tower of the Ovens. 12 And alongside him strengthened Shalom son of Halohesh, chief of half the district of Jerusalem, he and his daughters. 13 Hanun strengthened the gate of the valley, and the men of Zanoah rebuilt in his pasture, and they set up its doors, its locks, and its bars, and a thousand cubits in the wall to the gate of the lips. 14 The Dung Gate was repaired by Malchijah son of Rechab, ruler of the district of Beth Hakkerem—he built it and set up its doors, its locks, and its bars. 15 Shallun son of Col-Hozeh, ruler of the Mizpah district, repaired the Fountain Gate. He built it, covered it, and set its doors, locks, and bars in place. He also rebuilt the wall of the Pool of Shelah by the King's Garden as far as the stairs that go down from the City of David. 16 After him Nehemiah son of Azbuk, ruler of half the district of Beth Zur, strengthened as far as opposite David's tombs and as far as the artificial pool and the house of the warriors. 17 After him the Levites strengthened their work: Rehum son of Bani. Over him Hashabiah, chief of half the district of Keilah, strengthened it for his district. 18 After him their brothers held fast—Bavvai son of Henadad, ruler of half the district of Keilah. 19 And on his hand Ezer son of Jeshua, ruler of Mizpah, strengthened a second measure opposite the ascent of the armory at the corner. 20 After him Baruch son of Zakkai strengthened it, a second measure from the corner to the entrance of the house of Eliashib the high priest. 21 After him, Meremoth son of Uriah son of Hakkoz strengthened a second section from the entrance of the temple of Eliashib to the end of the temple of Eliashib. 22 And after him the priests, men of the cultic unit of measure for sanctuary metals, strengthened. 23 After him Benjamin and Hashub strengthened it opposite their house. After him Azariah son of Maaseiah son of Ananiah strengthened it beside his house. 24 After him, Binnui son of Henadad strengthened a second section from the house of Azariah to the corner and to the turning. 25 Palal son of Uzai made repairs opposite the projecting tower that comes out from the upper house of the king, which is by the courtyard of the guard. After him Pedaiah son of Parosh. 26 And the Temple servants were dwelling in the Ophel as far as opposite the gate of the waters to the east and the tower that protrudes. 27 After him the trumpeters strengthened it from the Second Measure opposite the Great Tower that goes out from the wall of the Ophel. 28 From above the Horse Gate the priests worked, each opposite his house. 29 After him Zadok son of Immer strengthened it opposite his house, and after him Shemaiah son of Shecaniah, keeper of the East Gate, strengthened it. 30 After him Hananiah son of Shelemiah and Hanun son of Zalaph repaired the sixth section. After him Meshullam son of Berechiah repaired opposite his chamber. 31 After him Malchijah son of the goldsmith strengthened the house of the temple servants and the merchants' gate opposite the Muster Gate and the upper room of the corner. 32 And between the upper chamber of the cornerstone and the Sheep Gate the goldsmiths and the merchants strengthened themselves.
