God's Promise and Warning to Solomon

1 Kings 9:1-9
1And it was, when Solomon had finished building the house of the LORD and the house of the king and all the desire of Solomon that he delighted to do, 2the LORD appeared to Solomon a second time, just as he had appeared to him at Gibeon. 3The LORD said to him, "I have heard your prayer and your supplication that you made before me. I have consecrated this house that you built in order to place my name there forever, and my eyes and my heart will be there all the days." 4And you, if you walk before me just as David your father walked, with integrity of heart and with uprightness, doing all that I commanded you, my statutes and my judgments you shall keep, 5then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, just as I promised David your father when I said, 'No man will be cut off from you from the throne of Israel.' 6If you and your sons turn away from following me and do not keep my commandments and my statutes that I set before you, but go and serve other gods and bow down to them, 7then I will cut Israel off from the face of the land that I gave them, and I will send away from my face the house that I consecrated for my name, and Israel will become a proverb and a taunt among all the peoples. 8And this house will become high; all who pass by it will be appalled and will whistle and will say, "Why has the LORD done thus to this land and to this house?" 9They will answer, 'Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and they clung to other gods, bowed down to them, and served them; therefore the LORD has brought all this distress upon them.'
