Ahaziah Succeeds His Father and Is Wounded

2 Chronicles 22:1-9

Chapter 22
1 And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah, his youngest son, king in his place, for all the leaders of the band that came from the Arabs to the camp had been killed. And Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah became king. 2 Ahaziah was forty-two years old. In his kingship he reigned one year in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother was Athaliah, daughter of Omri. 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor to act wickedly. 4 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD like the house of Ahab, for they were his counselors after the death of his father to destroy him. 5 Also according to their counsel he went and went with Jehoram son of Ahab king of Israel to warfare against Hazael king of Aram in Ramoth of Gilead, and the Rams struck Joram. 6 He stayed in Jezreel to heal, because of the wounds they had inflicted on him in Ramah when he fought against Hazael king of Aram. And Azariah son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram son of Ahab in Jezreel, for he was sick. 7 It was from God that Ahaziah's downfall came to Joram. When he came, he went out with Jehoram to Jehu son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab. 8 And it was when Jehu judged with the house of Ahab, and he found the rulers of Judah and the brothers of Ahaziah serving Ahaziah, and he killed them. 9 He sought Ahaziah, captured him, brought him to Jehu, put him to death, and buried him. For they said, “He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart.” And there was no one in the house of Ahaziah strong enough to hold the kingdom.
