The Exalted Zion: Promise of Restoration and Protection
Isaiah 54:1-17
1Sing, O barren one who has not given birth; break out in a cry and shout aloud, you who have not been in labor, for the many children of the desolate one outnumber the children of the married one, says the LORD.2Enlarge the place of your tent, and let the curtains of your tabernacles be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your cords and make your stakes firm.3For you will break through to the right and to the left, and your offspring will possess nations, and they will settle the desolate cities.4Do not fear, for you will not be put to shame; and do not be humiliated, for you will not suffer disgrace; for you will forget the shame of your youth and will no longer remember the reproach of your widowhood.5For your Maker is your husband, the LORD of hosts is his name, and your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, is called the God of all the earth.6For the LORD has called you like a wife who has been forsaken and wounded in spirit, and like a wife of youth who has been rejected, says your God.7For a brief moment I abandoned you, but with great compassion I will gather you.8In overflowing wrath I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness I have had compassion on you, says the LORD your Redeemer.9For this is to me like the waters of Noah: just as I swore that the waters of Noah would never again pass over the earth, so I have sworn that I will never again be angry with you or rebuke you.10Though the mountains be removed and the hills be shaken, my kindness will not depart from you, nor will my covenant of peace be shaken, says the LORD who has compassion on you.11O afflicted one, storm-tossed, not comforted, behold, I am the one laying your stones in colored mortar and founding you with sapphires.12I will set your sun-stones of ruby, and your gates of carbuncle stones, and all your border of stones of pleasure.13And all your children will be disciples of the LORD, and great will be the peace of your children.14You will be established in righteousness; be far from oppression, for you will not fear, and from terror, for it will not come near you.15Look, if anyone stirs up strife, it is not from me; whoever contends with you will fall upon you.16Behold, I myself created the smith who blows the fire of coals and produces a vessel for its work, and I created the destroyer to cause ruin.17No vessel formed against you will succeed, and every tongue that rises against you in judgment you will refute; this is the inheritance of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is from me, declares the LORD.
