1David was old and full of days, and he made his son Solomon reign over Israel.2He gathered all the chiefs of Israel, the priests, and the Levites.3The Levites were counted from the age of thirty years and upward, and their number by headcount, of the men, was thirty-eight thousand.4Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of the LORD, and six thousand were officials and judges.5And four thousand gatekeepers and four thousand praisers of the LORD with instruments which I made to praise.6And David divided them into divisions for the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
