Divisions of the Priests into Twenty‑Four Courses

1 Chronicles 24:1-19
1And to the sons of Aaron their divisions: the sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 2And Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and they had no sons; therefore Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests. 3And David and Zadok divided them from the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech from the sons of Ithamar, according to their appointment in their service. 4And more sons of Eleazar were found as heads of the leading men than sons of Ithamar; they therefore assigned sixteen heads of fathers' houses to the sons of Eleazar and eight to the sons of Ithamar. 5And they divided them by lots, these with these, for they were rulers of holiness and rulers of God, some from the sons of Eleazar and some from the sons of Ithamar. 6And Shemaiah son of Nethanel the scribe, from the Levites, wrote them down before the king and the rulers and Zadok the priest and Ahimelech son of Abiathar and the heads of the fathers of the priests and the Levites: one fathers' house grasped for Eleazar and one grasped for Ithamar. 7The first lot fell to Jehoiarib and the second to Jedaiah. 8The third fell to Harim and the fourth to Seorim. 9The fifth fell to Malchijah and the sixth to Mijamin. 10The seventh fell to Koz and the eighth to Abijah. 11The ninth fell to Jeshua and the tenth to Shecaniah. 12The eleventh fell to Eliashib and the twelfth to Jakim. 13The thirteenth fell to Huppah and the fourteenth to Jeshebeab. 14The fifteenth fell to Bilgah and the sixteenth to Immer. 15The seventeenth fell to Hezir and the eighteenth to Happizzez. 16The nineteenth fell to Pethahiah and the twentieth to Jehezkel. 17The twenty-first fell to Jachin and the twenty-second to Gamul. 18The twenty-third fell to Delaiah and the twenty-fourth to Maaziah. 19These were their appointments for their service, to come to the house of the LORD according to their judgment by the hand of Aaron their father, just as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him.
