The Angel and the Promises

Exodus 23:20-33
20Behold, I send a messenger before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared. 21Guard yourself from his presence and listen to his voice; do not rebel against him, for he will not forgive your transgression, for my name is in his midst. 22But if you indeed listen to his voice and do everything that I say, then I will oppose your enemies and I will harass those who harass you. 23For my messenger will go before you and will bring you to the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Canaanite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, and I will wipe him out. 24You shall not bow down to their gods or serve them or do according to their works, for you must utterly overthrow them and break their pillars to pieces. 25You shall serve the LORD your God, and he will bless your bread and your water; and I will remove sickness from your midst. 26No one shall miscarry or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days. 27I will send my terror before you and throw into confusion all the people among whom you come, and I will give all your enemies to you with their backs turned. 28I will send the hornet before you, and it will drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite from before you. 29I will not drive them out before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the wild animals of the field multiply against you. 30Little by little I will drive them out before you until you are fruitful and inherit the land. 31I will set your border from the sea of Suph and to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the River; for I will give the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you will drive them out before you. 32You shall not cut a covenant with them or with their gods. 33They shall not dwell in your land, lest they cause you to sin against me; for if you serve their gods, it will become a snare to you.
