Leviticus

The Priests Ordained

Chapter 8
1 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 2 Take Aaron and his sons with him, the garments, the anointing oil, the bull of the sin offering, the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread. 3 And the entire assembly gathered at the entrance of the tent of meeting. 4 And Moses did as the LORD commanded him, and the assembly gathered at the entrance of the tent of meeting. 5 And Moses said to the congregation, "This is what the LORD has commanded you to do." 6 And Moses brought Aaron and his sons near and washed them with water. 7 And he put the tunic on him and girded him with the sash and clothed him with the robe and put the ephod on him and girded him with the breastpiece of the ephod and fastened the ephod to him with it. 8 He put the priestly breastpiece on him and put the Urim and the Thummim into the priestly breastpiece. 9 And he put the turban on his head and put the gold flower, the holy diadem, on the front of the turban, just as the LORD commanded Moses. 10 Moses took the anointing oil, anointed the tabernacle and everything in it, and consecrated them. 11 He sprinkled some of it on the altar seven times, anointed the altar and all its utensils, the laver and its stand, to sanctify them. 12 And he poured the anointing oil on Aaron's head and anointed him to consecrate him. 13 Moses brought Aaron's sons near, clothed them with tunics, girded them with sashes, and bound headbands on them, just as the LORD commanded Moses. 14 He brought the bull of the sin offering near, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the bull of the sin offering. 15 He slaughtered it, and Moses took the blood and put it on the horns of the altar all around with his finger. He cleansed the altar, and he poured out the blood at the base of the altar, and he consecrated it to atone for it. 16 He took all the fat on the entrails, the appendage of the liver, and the two kidneys with their fat, and Moses burned it on the altar. 17 He burned the bull, its hide, its flesh, and its dung with fire outside the camp, just as the LORD commanded Moses. 18 He brought the ram of the burnt offering near, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram. 19 He slaughtered it, and Moses threw the blood on the altar all around. 20 He cut the ram into its pieces, and Moses burned the head, the pieces, and the suet as incense. 21 He washed the offering and the legs with water, and he made a fire offering of the whole ram on the altar. It was a burnt offering; it was a fire offering to the LORD for a soothing aroma, just as the LORD commanded Moses. 22 He brought the second ram near, the ram of the ordination, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram. 23 He slaughtered it. And Moses took some of his blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron's right ear, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the thumb of his right foot. 24 He brought Aaron's sons near, and Moses put some of the blood on the lobes of their right ears, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. And Moses splashed the blood against all sides of the altar. 25 He took the fat, the ram, all the fat on the entrails, the lobe of the liver, the two kidneys with their fat, and the right thigh. 26 And he took from the basket of unleavened cakes that was before the LORD one unleavened cake, one cake of oil bread, and one wafer, and put them on the fat portions and on the right thigh. 27 And he put them on the palms of Aaron and on the palms of his sons and waved them as a wave offering before the LORD. 28 And Moses took them from their palms and burned them on the altar upon the burnt offering. They are offerings, a pleasing aroma, a fire offering to the LORD. 29 And Moses took the breast and waved it as a wave offering before the LORD from the ram of ordination. It was a portion for Moses, just as the LORD commanded Moses. 30 And Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood that was on the altar and sprinkled it on Aaron, on his garments, and on his sons, and on the garments of his sons with it. And he sanctified Aaron, his garments, and his sons, and the garments of his sons with it. 31 And Moses said to Aaron and to his sons, "Boil the flesh at the entrance of the tent of meeting, and there you shall eat it and the bread that is in the basket of the ordination offerings, just as I commanded, saying, 'Aaron and his sons shall eat it.'" 32 You shall burn with fire what remains of the flesh and the bread. 33 And you shall not go out from the entrance of the tent of meeting for seven days, until the day of fulfilling the days of your ordination, for seven days it will ordain you. 34 As he did on this day, the LORD commanded to do to make atonement for you. 35 And at the entrance of the tent of meeting you shall dwell day and night for seven days, and you shall keep the keeping of the LORD, so that you shall not die, for so I have commanded. 36 And Aaron and his sons did all the things that the LORD commanded through Moses.
