Laws of Chastity

Chapter 22
13 For if a man takes a woman and comes to her and hates her. 14 and he places on her schemes of words and brings out on her a name of evil and says, "I took this woman and I approached her, and I did not find virginity for her." 15 Then the father of the young woman and her mother took her virginity and brought it to the elders of the city at the gate. 16 And the father of the girl will say to the elders: "I gave my daughter to this man as a wife, and he hated her." 17 And behold—he has laid upon her devices of words, saying, "I did not find virginity for your daughter," and these are the virginities of my daughter, and they have spread out the garment before the elders of the city. 18 And the elders of that city took the man and disciplined him. 19 And they will fine him a hundred shekels of silver and they will give them to the father of the girl, because he has brought an evil name upon the virgin of Israel. And she will be his as a wife; he will not be able to send her away all his days. 20 And if this word was truth, virginity was not found for the girl. 21 And they shall bring the girl out to the doorway of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones, and she shall die, because she has done folly in Israel by prostituting her father's house, and you shall burn away the evil from your midst. 22 If a man is found lying with a married woman, then they shall die, both of them—the man who lay with the woman, and the woman—and you shall burn out the evil from Israel. 23 For if there is a girl, a virgin betrothed to a man, and a man finds her in the city and lies with her. 24 And you shall bring both of them out to the gate of that city and stone them with stones, and they shall die—the girl on account of the word that she did not cry out in the city, and the man on account of the word that he humbled the woman of his companion—and you shall burn out the evil from your midst. 25 And if in the field the man finds the betrothed young woman and the man seizes her and lies with her, then the man who lay with her shall die alone. 26 You shall not do anything to the young woman; there is no sin deserving death in the young woman, for just as when a man rises up against his companion and murders him, his nephesh, so is this case. 27 For he found her in the field; the betrothed girl cried out, and there was no rescuer for her. 28 For a man finds a young woman, a virgin who has not been betrothed, and he seizes her and lies with her, and they are found. 29 And the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the girl fifty silver, and to him she shall be as wife in place of that he humiliated; he shall not be able to send her away all his days. 30 A man shall not take his father's wife, nor uncover his father's skirt.
