The Year of the Lord's Favor and Joyful Restoration

61
Chapter 61
1 The Spirit of the Lord the LORD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the oppressed. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and to open the prison to those who are bound. 2 to proclaim the year of the favor of the LORD and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all the mourners. 3 to appoint for the mourners of Zion to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they might be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, to display his glory. 4 And they will build the everlasting ruins; they will raise up the former desolations, and they will renew the ruined cities, the desolations of generation and generation. 5 And foreigners will stand and shepherd your flock, and sons of foreign gods will be your farmers and your vinedressers. 6 But you—priests of the LORD—you will be called ministers of our God. He will say to you, “You will eat the might of nations, and in their glory you will glory.” 7 Instead of your shame double, and instead of reproach let them shout their portion; therefore in their land they will inherit double, joy of eternity will be theirs. 8 For I, the LORD, love justice, hate robbery in iniquity, and I will give their work in truth, and I will cut an everlasting covenant for them. 9 And their seed will be known among the nations, and their offspring in the midst of the peoples; all who see them will recognize them, for they are the seed of the blessing of the LORD. 10 I will rejoice, I will exult in the LORD; my soul will exult in my God, for he has clothed me with garments of salvation, he will cloak me with a robe of righteousness; like a bridegroom he will priest glory, and like a bride she will adorn her utensils. 11 For as the earth brings out its sprout and as a garden causes its sown seed to sprout, so the Lord the LORD will cause righteousness to sprout and praise before all the nations.
