1And in the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of it, when the word of the king and his law came to be carried out, on the day when the enemies of the Jews had awaited to domineer over them, it was overturned so that the Jews themselves domineered over those who hated them.2The Jews gathered in their cities throughout all the provinces of King Ahasuerus in order to lay hands on those who sought their harm, and no one could stand before them, because dread of them had fallen on all the peoples.3All the rulers of the provinces, the satraps, the governors, and the officials who served the king supported the Jews, because dread of Mordecai had fallen upon them.4For Mordecai was great in the house of the king, and his report went through all the provinces, because the man Mordecai continued to go and was great.5The Jews struck all their enemies with a wound of the sword, slaughter, and destruction, and they did to those who hated them according to their acceptance.6In Susa the palace the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men.7They also killed Parshandatha, Dalphon, and Aspatha,8Poratha, Adalia, and Aridatha,9Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vaizatha,10the ten sons of Haman son of Hammedatha, the one who had vexed the Jews; they killed them, but they did not send their hand to the plunder.11On that same day the number of those killed in Susa the palace was reported to the king.12The king said to Queen Esther, "In Susa the palace the Jews have killed and destroyed five hundred men and the ten sons of Haman; what then have they done in the remnant of the provinces of the king? Now whatever your petition is, let it be given to you, and whatever further request you have, let it be done."13Esther said, "If it is pleasant upon the king, let it also be given tomorrow to the Jews who are in Susa to do according to the law of the day, and let the ten sons of Haman be hanged upon the tree."14The king ordered that this be done, a decree was issued in Susa, and the ten sons of Haman were hanged.15The Jews who were in Susa also assembled on the fourteenth day of the month Adar and killed three hundred men in Susa, but they did not lay hands on the plunder.16And the remnant of the Jews who were in the provinces of the king gathered and stood for their lives and obtained rest from their enemies and killed seventy-five thousand of those who hated them, but they did not lay hands on the plunder.17This occurred on the thirteenth day of the month Adar, and on the fourteenth day they rested and made that day a feast of joy.
