1Hear this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel and came forth from the waters of Judah, who swear by the name of the LORD and invoke the God of Israel, yet not in truth and not in righteousness.2For they are called from the holy city and lean upon the God of Israel; the LORD of Hosts is his name.3The former things I declared from of old, and they went forth from my mouth; I made them heard suddenly; I did them, and they came.4Because I knew that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew and your forehead is bronze.5I declared to you from of old; before they came I caused you to hear, lest you should say, 'My idol made them, and my carved image and my drink offering commanded them.'6You have heard; behold all of it. And will you not declare it? I caused you to hear new things from now, and hidden things that you did not know.7Now they are created, and not from of old, and before a day you had not heard them, lest you should say, 'Behold, I knew them.'8You have neither heard nor known, nor has your ear been opened from of old, for I knew that you would deal treacherously, and you deal treacherously, and a transgressor was called from the belly for you.9For the sake of my name I will prolong my anger, and for my praise I will restrain it for you, lest I cut you off.10Behold, I have refined you, but not with silver; I have chosen you in the furnace of affliction.11For my sake, for my sake, I will act; for how should my glory be profaned? I will not give my glory to another.
