Resettlement of Jerusalem and Its Towns

Nehemiah 11:1-36
1The rulers of the people dwelt in Jerusalem, and the remnant of the people cast lots to bring one out of every ten to dwell in Jerusalem, the city of holiness, while nine parts remained in the cities. 2The people blessed all the men who volunteered to dwell in Jerusalem. 3These were the heads of the province who dwelt in Jerusalem; in the cities of Judah each man dwelt in his own possession within their cities: Israel, the priests, the Levites, the temple servants, and the sons of Solomon's servants. 4Some of the sons of Judah and some of the sons of Benjamin dwelt in Jerusalem. From the sons of Judah came Athaiah son of Uzziah son of Zechariah son of Amariah son of Shephatiah son of Mahalalel, from the sons of Perez. 5Also Maaseiah son of Baruch son of Col-hozeh son of Hazaiah son of Adaiah son of Joiarib son of Zechariah son of the Shilonite. 6All the sons of Perez who dwelt in Jerusalem numbered four hundred sixty-eight men of valor. 7These were the sons of Benjamin: Sallu son of Meshullam son of Joed son of Pedaiah son of Kolaiah son of Maaseiah son of Ithiel son of Jeshaiah. 8After him came Gabbai and Sallai, nine hundred twenty-eight. 9Joel son of Zichri was their overseer, and Judah son of Hassenuah was over the second district of the city. 10Of the priests were Jedaiah son of Joiarib and Jachin. 11Seraiah son of Hilkiah son of Meshullam son of Zadok son of Meraioth son of Ahitub was the leader of the house of God. 12Their brothers who performed the work for the house numbered eight hundred twenty-two. Adaiah son of Jeroham son of Pelaliah son of Amzi son of Zechariah son of Pashhur son of Malchijah. 13His brothers, heads of fathers' houses, numbered two hundred forty-two. Amashsai son of Azarel son of Ahzai son of Meshillemoth son of Immer. 14Their brothers, mighty men of valor, numbered one hundred twenty-eight, and Zabdiel son of Haggedolim was their overseer. 15Of the Levites were Shemaiah son of Hasshub son of Azrikam son of Hashabiah son of Bunni. 16Shabbethai and Jozabad, heads of the Levites, supervised the outside work of the house of God. 17Mattaniah son of Micah son of Zabdi son of Asaph, the head of the beginning, led the thanksgiving in prayer; Bakbukiah was second among his brothers, and Abda son of Shammua son of Galal son of Jeduthun. 18All the Levites in the holy city numbered two hundred eighty-four. 19The gatekeepers were Akkub, Talmon, and their brothers who kept watch at the gates, one hundred seventy-two. 20The remnant of Israel, the priests and the Levites, lived in all the cities of Judah, each in his own inheritance. 21The temple servants dwelt in Ophel, and Ziha and Gishpa supervised the temple servants. 22Uzzi son of Bani son of Hashabiah son of Mattaniah son of Mica, from the sons of Asaph, was the overseer of the Levites in Jerusalem; the singers served before the work of the house of God. 23The king's commandment was upon them, and a fixed order governed the singers day by day. 24Pethahiah son of Meshezabel, from the sons of Zerah son of Judah, was at the king's hand for every matter concerning the people. 25In the villages of their fields some of the sons of Judah dwelt in Kiriath-arba and its villages, in Dibon and its villages, and in Jekabzeel and its villages. 26They also dwelt in Jeshua, in Moladah, and in Beth-pelet. 27They dwelt in Hazar-shual, in Beersheba and its villages. 28They dwelt in Ziklag, in Meconah and its villages. 29They dwelt in En-rimmon, in Zorah, and in Jarmuth. 30Zanoah, Adullam and their villages, Lachish and its fields, Azekah and its villages; they encamped from Beersheba as far as the Valley of Hinnom. 31The sons of Benjamin dwelt in Geba, Michmash, Ai, Bethel and its villages. 32Anathoth, Nob, and Ananiah. 33Hazor, Ramah, and Gittaim. 34Hadid, Zeboim, and Neballat. 35Lod, Ono, and the Valley of the Craftsmen. 36Some of the Levites had divisions in Judah and in Benjamin.
