The Sign of Ezekiel's Wife's Death: Judgment and Changed Lament

24
Chapter 24
15 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 16 Son of Adam, I am taking from you the delight of your eyes by plague, and you shall not mourn and you shall not weep, and your tears shall not come. 17 Groan for the blood of the slain; groan, but do not cover the head as a sign of glory, and you shall put your sandals on your feet, and you shall not cover your mustache, and you shall not eat bread of men. 18 In the morning I spoke to the people, and in the evening my wife died. And in the morning I did just as I was commanded. 19 The people said to me, "Won't you tell us what these things mean for us, that you are doing?" 20 He said to them, "The word of the LORD came to me, saying," 21 Say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am profaning my sanctuary, the hubris of your strength, the delight of your eyes, and the pity of your vital life force, and your sons and your daughters whom you abandoned by the sword—they will fall. 22 And you shall do as I did: you shall not cover the mustache, and you shall not eat bread of men. 23 And let your hair hang loose over your heads and your sandals on your feet; you shall not mourn and you shall not weep, and you shall waste away in your iniquities, and you shall groan, each man to his brother. 24 Ezekiel will be a sign to you; you will do all that he has done when it comes, and you will know that I am the Lord GOD. 25 And you, son of man, on the day I take from them their stronghold, the joy of their glory, the delight of their eyes, and the burden of their soul—their sons and their daughters— 26 On that day the survivor will come to you to make ears hear. 27 On that day your mouth will be opened to the survivors, and you will speak and no longer be mute, and you will be to them for a sign, and they will know that I am the LORD.
