Report of Jerusalem's Fall and the People's Alarm

33
Chapter 33
21 And it was in the twelfth year, in the tenth month, on the fifth of the month of our exile, a survivor from Jerusalem came to me saying, "The city has been struck." 22 Now the hand of the LORD was upon me in the evening before the coming of the fugitive, and he opened my mouth until he came to me in the morning; and he opened my mouth, and I was no longer muted. 23 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 24 Son of Adam, the ones dwelling in these cut-offs upon the soil of Israel are saying, saying: "One was Abraham and he inherited the earth, but we are many; to us the earth has been given as inheritance." 25 Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: You eat meat with blood, and you lift up your eyes to your idols, and you shed blood, and you possess the land. 26 You have stood upon your sword, you have done abomination, and a man has defiled his neighbor's wife, and you will inherit the earth. 27 Therefore you shall say to them, "Thus says the Lord GOD: As I live, those in the swords by sword will fall, those on the face of the field to the wild animal I have given it to eat them, and those in strongholds and caves by plague will die." 28 And I will make the land desolation upon desolation, and the pride of Gaza will cease, and the mountains of Israel will be desolate, with no passerby. 29 And they will know that I am the LORD when I give the earth desolation and horror over all their abominations that they did. 30 And you, son of man, the sons of your people who speak of you beside the walls and at the doorways of the houses and speak one to one, a man to his brother, saying, "Come now and hear what the word is that comes out from the LORD." 31 And they come to you as people come and sit before you, my people, and hear your words, but they will not do them, for lovers are in their mouth; they are doers after their greed; their heart has gone. 32 And behold, you are like a love song to them, with a beautiful voice and one who skillfully plays the nāgēn; and they hear your words, but they do not do them. 33 And when it comes, lo, it comes, and they will know that a prophet was in their midst.
