The Sacrifice of Isaac

Genesis 22:1-19
1And it came to pass after these words that God tested Abraham and said to him, Abraham. And he said, Here I am. 2And he said, Take your son, your only son whom you love, Isaac, and go for yourself to the land of Moriah, and offer him up there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you. 3And Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey and took his two young men with him and Isaac his son, and he split wood for the burnt offering; and he arose and went to the place that God had told him. 4On the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place from a distance. 5And Abraham said to his young men, Stay here with the donkey, and I and the boy will go over there; and we will bow down and return to you. 6And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and placed it on Isaac his son, and he took the fire and the knife in his hand; and the two of them walked together. 7And Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, My father. And he said, Here I am, my son. And he said, Here are the fire and the wood, but where is the sheep for the burnt offering? 8And Abraham said, God will provide for himself the sheep for the burnt offering, my son. So the two of them walked together. 9And they came to the place that God had told him about, and Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar above the wood. 10And Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. 11And the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham." And he said, "Here I am." 12And he said, Do not send your hand against the boy, and do not do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me. 13And Abraham lifted his eyes and saw, and behold, a ram caught in the thicket by its horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering in place of his son. 14And Abraham called the name of that place The LORD Will Provide, as it is said to this day, On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided. 15And the angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time from heaven. 16And he said, By myself I have sworn, declares the LORD, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son. 17I will surely bless you and I will surely multiply your seed as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore, and your seed will possess the gate of its enemies. 18And all the nations of the earth will be blessed through your seed because you have heard my voice. 19And Abraham returned to his young men, and they arose and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt in Beersheba.
