1After these things God tested Abraham. He said to him, "Abraham." And he said, "Here I am."2And God said, "Take your son, your only son whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which he will tell you."3Abraham arose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, took his two young men with him and Isaac his son, split wood for the burnt offering, arose, and went to the place of which God had told him.4On the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place from afar.5Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the donkey, and the boy and I will go over there. We will worship, and we will return to you."6Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and put it on Isaac his son. He took the fire and the knife in his hand, and the two of them went together.7Isaac said to Abraham his father, "My father." He said, "Here I am, my son." And Isaac said, "Look, here is the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?"8Abraham said, "God will provide the ram for the burnt offering, my son." And the two of them went together.9They came to the place God had told him about. Abraham built the altar there, arranged the wood, bound Isaac his son, and put him on the altar on top of the wood.10Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son.11The angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" He said, "Here I am."12He said, "Do not lay your hand on the boy, and do not do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you did not withhold your son, your only one, from me."13And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and there—a ram behind him, caught in the thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.14And Abraham called that place The LORD Will See, as it is said to this day, "On the mountain the LORD will see."15The angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time from heaven.16He said, "By myself I have sworn, says the LORD, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only one."17I will bless you with blessing, and multiplying, I will multiply your seed like the stars of the heavens and like the sand that is on the lip of the sea. And your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies.18And all the nations of the land will bless themselves by your Seed because you have listened to my voice.19Abraham returned to his young men, and they got up and went together to Beersheba. Abraham lived in Beersheba.
