Amos Confronts Amaziah; Judgment on the King's House
Amos 7:10-17
10Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent word to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is not able to sustain all his words.11For thus Amos has said: Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be exiled from his land.12Amaziah said to Amos, Seer, go, flee to the land of Judah, and eat food there, and prophesy there.13But you shall no longer prophesy at Bethel, for it is the sanctuary of the king and it is the house of the kingdom.14Amos answered and said to Amaziah, I am not a prophet, nor am I the son of a prophet, for I am a herdsman and a gatherer of sycamores.15The LORD took me from following the flock, and the LORD said to me, "Go, prophesy to my people Israel."16Now therefore hear the word of the LORD: you are saying, "Do not prophesy against Israel and do not drip against the house of Isaac."17Therefore thus says the LORD: your wife shall fornicate in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by the cord, and you shall die upon unclean land, and Israel shall surely be exiled from his land.
