The Fall of Tyre Foretold

Ezekiel 26:1-21
1And it came to pass in the eleventh year, on the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2Son of man, because Tyre has said concerning Jerusalem, Aha! The doors of the peoples have been broken; she has turned toward me; I will be filled; she has been destroyed. 3Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against you, Tyre, and I will bring up many nations against you, as the sea brings up its waves. 4They will destroy the walls of Tyre and overthrow its towers; I will scrape its dust from it and make it a bare rock. 5It will become a spreading-place for nets in the midst of the sea, for I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD, and it will become plunder for the nations. 6Its daughters who are in the land will be slain by the sword, and they will know that I am the LORD. 7For thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am bringing Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, king of kings, against Tyre from the north, with horses, chariots, horsemen, and a great assembly of people. 8He will kill your daughters in the land by the sword; he will set up siegeworks against you, cast up a mound against you, and raise a shield against you. 9He will direct the blows of his battering ram against your walls and demolish your towers with his swords. 10From the abundance of his horses their dust will cover you; at the sound of horseman and wheel and chariot your walls will shake when he enters your gates, as the entrances of a breached city. 11With the hooves of his horses he will trample all your streets; he will kill your people with the sword, and your pillars of strength will go down to the land. 12They will plunder your wealth and loot your merchandise and overthrow your walls and tear down the houses of your desire; and your stones and your timber and your dust they will set in the midst of the waters. 13And I will cause the noise of your songs to cease, and the sound of your lyres will be heard no more. 14And I will make you a bare rock; you will be a spreading-place for nets; you will not be built again, for I the LORD have spoken, declares the Lord GOD. 15Thus says the Lord GOD to Tyre: Will not the coastlands shake at the sound of your fall, when the slain groan, when slaughter is made in your midst? 16And all the princes of the sea will come down from their thrones and remove their robes and strip off their embroidered garments; they will clothe themselves with trembling; they will sit upon the land and tremble at every moment and be desolate over you. 17And they will raise a dirge over you and say to you, How you have perished, O inhabited one from the seas, the city that was praised, which was strong in the sea—she and her inhabitants who put their terror upon all her inhabitants. 18Now the coastlands will tremble on the day of your fall, and the coastlands that are in the sea will be dismayed at your going out. 19For thus says the Lord GOD: When I make you a ruined city like the cities that are not inhabited, when I bring up the deep over you and the many waters cover you, 20then I will bring you down with those who go down to the pit, to the people of old, and make you dwell in the land below, like the desolate places from of old, with those who go down to the pit, so that you will not be inhabited; and I will set beauty in the land of the living. 21I will bring terrors upon you, and you will be no more; and you will be sought, but you will never be found again, declares the Lord GOD.
