1Elisha the prophet called to one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, Gird your loins, take this vial of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth-gilead.2When you come there, see Jehu son of Jehoshaphat son of Nimshi there, bring him out from among his brothers, and bring him into an inner chamber.3Then take the vial of oil and pour it on his head and say, Thus says the LORD: I anoint you king over Israel. Then open the door and flee without waiting.4So the young prophet set out for Ramoth-gilead.5He came and behold, the commanders of the army were sitting. He said, "I have a word for you, commander." Jehu said, "For whom of all of us?" He said, "For you, commander."6He rose and came into the house, poured the oil on his head, and said to him, Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: I anoint you king over the people of the LORD, over Israel.7You shall strike the house of Ahab your master, and I will avenge the blood of my servants the prophets and the blood of all the servants of the LORD from the hand of Jezebel.8All the house of Ahab shall perish, and I will cut off from Ahab every one who urinates against a wall, both restrained and forsaken, in Israel.9I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah.10Jezebel the dogs shall eat in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none burying her. Then he opened the door and fled.11Jehu came out to the servants of his master. They said to him, "Is it peace? Why did this madman come to you?" He said to them, "You know the man and his complaint."12They said, "Deception; tell us please." He said, "Like this and like this he said to me, saying, 'Thus says the LORD: I anoint you king over Israel.'"13They hastened and each took his garment and placed it under him on the steps, blew the trumpet, and said, Jehu reigns.
