Joseph’s Dreams

Genesis 37:1-11
1Jacob dwelt in the land of his father's sojourning, in the land of Canaan. 2These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph was seventeen years old. He was pasturing the flock with his brothers; he was a youth with the sons of Bilhah and with the sons of Zilpah, the women of his father. Joseph brought their bad slander to their father. 3Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons because he was a son of his old age to him; therefore he made a long-sleeved tunic for him. 4His brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, so they hated him and could not speak peaceably to him. 5Joseph dreamed a dream and told it to his brothers, and they hated him still more. 6He said to them, "Please hear this dream that I have dreamed." 7Behold, we were binding sheaves in the midst of the field, and behold, my sheaf rose and stood upright; and behold, your sheaves turned around and bowed down to my sheaf. 8His brothers said to him, "Will you really reign over us? Will you really rule over us?" So they added still more to hate him because of his dreams and because of his words. 9He dreamed still another dream and recounted it to his brothers. He said, "Behold, I have dreamed a dream still: behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me." 10He recounted it to his father and to his brothers. His father rebuked him and said to him, "What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow down to you to the land?" 11His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.
