Violence and Corruption in the Land

Jeremiah 7:30-8:3
30For the sons of Judah have done what is bad in my eyes, declares the LORD. They have placed their abominations in the house that is called by my name, in order to defile it. 31They also built the high places of Topheth in the valley of Ben Hinnom to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire—something I neither commanded nor conceived. 32Therefore, days are surely coming, declares the LORD, when people will no longer call it Topheth or the valley of Ben Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter; and they will bury in Topheth because there will be no room left. 33The carcass of this people will become food for the birds of the heaven and for the animals of the land, and there will be no one to frighten them away. 34I will silence from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the voice of rejoicing and the voice of joy, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, for the land will become a desolation.
Chapter 8
1At that time, declares the LORD, the bones of the kings of Judah and the bones of its rulers and the bones of the priests and the bones of the prophets and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem will be brought out of their graves. 2They will spread them before the sun and before the moon and before all the host of the heaven that they loved and that they served and that they followed and that they sought and that they bowed down to; they will not be gathered and will not be buried; they will be like dung upon the face of the ground. 3Death will be chosen rather than life by all the remnant of this bad family that remains in all the places where I have driven them, declares the LORD of Hosts.
