Hezekiah's Illness, Pride, and the Babylonian Envoys
2 Chronicles 32:24-33
24In those days Hezekiah became weak until death, and he prayed to the LORD and spoke to him, and a wonder was given to him.25Hezekiah did not return recompense upon himself, for his heart had exalted, so wrath came upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem.26Hezekiah humbled himself because of the height of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the wrath of the LORD did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.27Hezekiah possessed riches and very great glory, and he made for himself treasuries for silver and for gold and for precious stone and for spices and for shields and for all articles of desire.28He also made storerooms for the produce of grain and new wine and oil, and stalls for all kinds of livestock, and flocks for the stalls.29He built cities for himself and livestock of flock and cattle in abundance, for God had given him very much property.30Hezekiah himself closed the upper outlet of the waters of Gihon and directed them westward below the city of David, and Hezekiah prospered in all his work.31And so in the matter of the envoys of the rulers of Babylon who were sent to him to inquire about the wonder that had occurred in the land, God left him to test him, to know all that was in his heart.32Now the rest of the words of Hezekiah and his kindnesses, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet, upon the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.33Hezekiah lay down with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent of the graves of the sons of David; and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem paid him honor at his death, and his son Manasseh reigned in his place.
