22Moses set out Israel from the Red Sea, and they came out toward the wilderness of Shur. They walked three days in the wilderness and did not find water.23They came to Marah, yet they could not drink the water from Marah, because it was bitter. Therefore he called its name Marah.24The people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?"25He cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. He threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There he established for them a statute and a judgment, and there he tested them.26He said, "If you will indeed listen to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, and if you listen to his commandments and keep all his statutes, then I will not put on you any of the diseases that I put on Egypt, for I am the LORD who heals you."27They came to Elim, and there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they camped there beside the water.
