Altar Design and Sacrificial Regulations

43
Chapter 43
13 And these are the measurements of the altar in cubits—a cubit and a cubit and a handbreadth. The bosom is a cubit and a cubit wide, and its ledge to its lip all around is a span of the one, and this is the back of the altar. 14 The base of the altar up to the lower ledge is two cubits high, and its width is one cubit; and from the smaller ledge up to the larger ledge is four cubits, and its width is one cubit. 15 And the ariel is four cubits, and from the ariel and upward the horns are four. 16 The altar hearth is twelve cubits long, twelve cubits wide, square to its four sides. 17 And the courtyard is fourteen cubits long by fourteen cubits wide, square to its four corners. And the ledge around it is half a cubit wide, and its gutter is a cubit wide all around, and its steps face east. 18 He said to me, "Son of Adam, thus says the Lord GOD: These are the statutes of the altar on the day it is made, to cause a burnt offering to ascend on it and to splash blood on it." 19 And you shall give to the priests the Levites who are from the seed of Zadok, the ones drawing near to me—utterance of the Lord the LORD—to serve me a bull, a son of cattle, for a sin offering. 20 And you shall take some of its blood and put it on its four horns, on the four corners of the enclosure, on the ledge all around; and you shall burn it, and you shall make atonement for it. 21 You shall take the bull of the sin offering and burn it at the appointed place of the house, outside the sanctuary. 22 And on the second day you shall present a male goat from the goats, unblemished, as a sin offering, and they shall make atonement for the altar just as they made atonement with the bull. 23 When you finish the sin offering, you shall offer a bull, a son of cattle, blameless, and a ram from the flock, blameless. 24 And you shall bring them near before the LORD, and the priests shall throw salt on them, and they shall make them a burnt offering for the LORD. 25 Seven days they shall make a sin offering goat each day, and a bull—a son of cattle—and a ram from the flock, unblemished. 26 Seven days they shall make atonement for the altar and purify it and consecrate it. 27 And when they have finished the days, then on the eighth day and onward, the priests shall offer your burnt offerings and your peace offerings on the altar, and I will accept you, declares the Lord GOD.
