Chapter 1

¹ The words of Amos, who was among the sheepbreeders of Tekoa, who envisioned concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake. ² He said, "The LORD will roar from Zion, and from Jerusalem he will give his voice; and the pastures of the shepherds will mourn, and the head of Carmel will wither." ³ This is what the LORD says: For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke my word—for threshing Gilead with iron threshing sledges. ⁴ I will send fire into the house of Hazael, and it will devour the palaces of Ben-Hadad. ⁵ I will break the bar of Damascus, and I will cut off the inhabitant from the Valley of Iniquity, and the one holding the scepter from the House of Eden. The people of Aram I will exile to Kir, says the LORD. ⁶ This is what the LORD says: For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn it back—for their exiling a complete exile to deliver up to Edom. ⁷ And I will send fire into the wall of Gaza, and it will devour her palaces. ⁸ And I will cut off the inhabitant of Ashdod and the holder of the scepter from Ashkelon, and I will turn back my hand against Ekron, and the remnant of Philistia will perish—oracle of the Lord GOD. ⁹ Thus says the LORD: "On three transgressions of Tyre, and on four, I will not turn it back, for their delivering the exile of Solomon to Edom, and they did not remember the covenant of brothers." ¹⁰ I will send fire into the wall of Tyre, and it will devour her palaces. ¹¹ Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn it back, for his pursuing his brother with a sword and destroying his womb-compassions, and he tore in rage to eternity; and his outburst, it has kept forever. ¹² And I will send fire in Teman, and it will devour the palaces of Bozrah. ¹³ This is what the LORD says: On account of three transgressions of the sons of Ammon—and on account of four—I will not turn it back; on account of their ripping open the wombs of Gilead in order to enlarge their boundary. ¹⁴ I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it will devour its palaces amid the shout on the day of battle, amid the storm on the day of the tempest. ¹⁵ And your king will go into exile, he and his officials together, says the LORD.

Chapter 2

¹ This is what the LORD says: For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not revoke my word—for burning the bones of the king of Edom to lime. ² And I will send fire into Moab, and it will devour the palaces of the cities, and Moab dies in uproar, in blast, in sound of ram's horn. ³ And I will cut off a judge from her midst, and I will kill all her princes with him," says the LORD. ⁴ This is what the LORD says: For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn it back. They rejected the Torah of the LORD, and they did not keep his statutes, and their falsehoods led them astray—falsehoods that their fathers followed. ⁵ And I will send fire on Judah, and it will devour the palaces of Jerusalem.
