Leaders Appointed

Deuteronomy 1:9-18
9At that time I said to you, "I am not able by myself to lift you." 10The LORD your God has multiplied you, and behold, you are this day as numerous as the stars of heaven. 11May the LORD, the God of your fathers, add to you a thousand times as many as you are, and may he bless you just as he promised you. 12How can I by myself bear your burden, your load, and your disputes? 13Choose wise, understanding, and experienced men from your tribes, and I will appoint them as your leaders. 14You answered me and said that the proposal I made was good. 15So I selected the leaders of your tribes, wise and experienced men, and appointed them as heads over you: commanders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens, together with officials for your tribes. 16At that time I charged your judges: Hear the disputes between your brothers and judge righteously between a man and his brother or his sojourner. 17You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike; you shall not fear any man, for judgment belongs to God; and any case too hard for you, bring it to me and I will hear it. 18At that time I also commanded you to observe all these things.
