Deuteronomy

Leaders Appointed

Chapter 1
9 And I said to you at that time, saying, "I am not able by myself to bear you." 10 The LORD your God has multiplied you, and here you are today, like the stars of the heavens in multitude. 11 May the LORD your God multiply you a thousand times over, and may he bless you just as he spoke to you. 12 How can I bear your toil and your burden and your disputes alone? 13 Give yourselves wise and understanding and knowing men for your tribes, and I will set them as heads over you. 14 And you answered me and said, "Good! The matter you have spoken to do." 15 And I took your tribal heads, wise and known men, and I made them heads over you, commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds and commanders of fifties and commanders of tens, and officers for your tribes. 16 And I commanded your judges at that time, saying, "Hear between your brothers and judge righteousness between a man and his brother and his sojourner." 17 You shall not recognize faces in justice; whether small or great you shall hear. You shall not fear the face of man, for the justice is God's. And the matter that is too hard for you, bring it to me, and I will hear it. 18 And I commanded you at that time with all the words that you shall do.
