The Philistines Reject David

1 Samuel 29:1-11
1And the Philistines gathered all their camp at Aphek, and Israel was camping by the Fountain which is in Jezreel. 2And the lords of the Philistines were passing by hundreds and by thousands, and David and his men were passing in the rear with Achish. 3And the rulers of the Philistines said, "What are these Hebrews?" And Achish said to the rulers of the Philistines, "Is this not David the servant of Saul king of Israel, who has been with me these days or these years, and I have not found anything in him from the day of his fall until this day?" 4And the rulers of the Philistines were angry with him, and the rulers of the Philistines said to him, "Return the man, and let him return to his place which you assigned him there, and let him not go down with us in the battle, and let him not be to us as an adversary in the battle. And in what will this one gain acceptance with his lords? Is it not with the heads of those men?" 5Is this not David, of whom they sing in the dances, saying, "Saul has struck down his thousands, and David his myriads"? 6And Achish called to David and said to him, "As the LORD lives, you are upright, and your going out and your coming in with me in the camp has been pleasant in my eyes, for I have not found any harm in you from the day you came to me until this day. But in the eyes of the lords it is not pleasant with you." 7And now return and walk in peace, and do not do what is harmful in the eyes of the lords of the Philistines. 8And David said to Achish, "For what have I done, and what have you found in your servant from the day I was before you until this day, that I may not come and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?" 9And Achish answered and said to David, "I know that you are pleasant in my eyes like a messenger of God; surely the rulers of the Philistines have said, 'He shall not go up with us in the battle.'" 10And now rise early in the morning with the servants of your lord who came with you; and when you have risen early in the morning and it is light for you, go. 11And David rose early, he and his men, to walk in the morning to return to the land of the Philistines, and the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
