1David said, 'Is there still anyone remaining of the house of Saul so that I may show kindness to him for Jonathan's sake?'2The house of Saul had a servant whose name was Ziba. They summoned him to David. The king said to him, 'Are you Ziba?' He answered, 'Your servant.'3The king said, 'Is there still a man of the house of Saul so that I may show him the kindness of God?' Ziba said to the king, 'There is still a son of Jonathan who is crippled in both feet.'4The king said to him, 'Where is he?' Ziba said to the king, 'Behold, he is in the house of Machir son of Ammiel at Lo-debar.'5King David sent and brought him from the house of Machir son of Ammiel at Lo-debar.6Mephibosheth son of Jonathan son of Saul came to David, fell on his face, and bowed down. David said, 'Mephibosheth.' He replied, 'Behold, your servant.'7David said to him, 'Do not be afraid, for I will certainly show kindness to you for the sake of Jonathan your father. I will restore to you all the land of Saul your father, and you shall eat at my table continually.'8He bowed down and said, 'What is your servant, that you have turned to a dying dog such as I am?'9The king summoned Ziba, Saul's servant, and said to him, 'Everything that belonged to Saul and to his entire household I have given to your lord's son.'10You and your sons and your servants shall work the land for him and bring food so that your lord's son may eat. Mephibosheth your lord's son shall eat continually at my table. Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.11Ziba said to the king, 'According to all that my lord the king commands his servant, so your servant will do.' Mephibosheth eats at my table like one of the king's sons.12Mephibosheth had a young son named Mica, and all of Ziba's household were servants to Mephibosheth.13Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem because he continually ate at the king's table, and he was lame in both feet.
