1A certain man in Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion from the cohort called the Italian Cohort,2a devout man who feared God with all his household, giving many alms to the people and praying to God continually.3He saw plainly in a vision, about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God come in to him and say to him, "Cornelius."4He gazed at him and became afraid and said, "What is it, Lord?" He said to him, "Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God."5And now send men to Joppa and summon a certain Simon who is called Peter.6This one is staying with a certain Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea.7When the angel who had spoken to him had departed, he called two of his servants and a pious soldier from among those who attended him.8And after explaining everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.
