Condemnation of False Prophets and Diviners

Ezekiel 13:1-23
1And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2Son of man, prophesy to the prophets of Israel who are prophesying, and say to the prophets from their heart: Hear the word of the LORD. 3Thus said the Lord GOD: Woe to the foolish prophets who go after their spirit and have not seen. 4Your prophets, O Israel, were like foxes in the desolations. 5You did not go up into the breaches or build up a wall for the house of Israel so that it might stand in battle on the day of the LORD. 6They saw vanity and a lying divination, saying, Utterance of the LORD, though the LORD had not sent them; yet they expected the word to be confirmed. 7Did you not see a vision of vanity and speak a divination of a lie when you said, Utterance of the LORD, though I had not spoken? 8Therefore thus said the Lord GOD: Because you have spoken vanity and seen a lie, therefore I am against you, declares the Lord GOD. 9My hand will be against the prophets who see vanity and divine a lie; they will have no place in the counsel of my people, they will not be recorded in the register of the house of Israel, and they will not enter the land of Israel; then you will know that I am the Lord GOD. 10Because they have led my people astray by saying, Peace, when there is no peace, and because one builds a wall while they overspread it with whitewash, 11say to those who overspread with whitewash that it will fall: there will be an overflowing rain, hailstones will fall, and a stormy wind will break it down. 12When the wall has fallen, will it not be asked of you, Where is the coating with which you overspread it? 13Therefore thus said the Lord GOD: I will release a stormy wind in my rage, an overflowing rain in my anger, and hailstones in wrath to destroy it. 14I will throw down the wall that you overspread with whitewash, bring it to the ground so that its foundation is uncovered, and it will fall; you will be finished in its midst, and you will know that I am the LORD. 15I will spend my rage on the wall and on those who overspread it with whitewash, and I will say to you: The wall is nothing, and those who overspread it are nothing. 16As for the prophets of Israel who prophesy to Jerusalem and the seers who see visions of peace for her when there is no peace, declares the Lord GOD, 17And you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who prophesy out of their own heart, and prophesy against them. 18Say: Thus said the Lord GOD: Woe to the women who sew amulets on all wrists and make veils for the heads of every height in order to hunt souls; they hunt the souls of my people, and for themselves they keep souls alive. 19They profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and pieces of bread, putting to death souls that should not die and keeping alive souls that should not live, by lying to my people who listen to lies. 20Therefore thus said the Lord GOD: I am against your amulets with which you hunt souls there as they fly, and I will tear them from your arms; I will let the souls go, the souls you hunt as they fly. 21I will tear off your veils and deliver my people out of your hands, and they will no longer be in your hands as prey; then you will know that I am the LORD. 22Because you disheartened the righteous with false assurances, though I did not pain him, and because you strengthened the hands of the wicked so that he would not turn from his evil way and live, 23therefore you will no longer see vanity or practice divination, and I will deliver my people from your hands; then you will know that I am the LORD.
