Faithlessness and Violation of the Marriage Covenant

Malachi 2:10-16
10Has not one father belong to all of us? Has not one God created us? Why should a man deal treacherously with his brother by profaning the covenant of our fathers? 11Judah has dealt treacherously, and an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem, because Judah has profaned the holiness of the LORD, which he loved, and has married the daughter of a foreign god. 12May the LORD cut off from the tents of Jacob the man who does this—the one who rouses and answers—and the one who brings an offering to the LORD of Hosts. 13And this is the second thing you do: covering the altar of the LORD with tears, weeping and groaning, so that he no longer regards the offering or receives favor from your hand. 14Yet you ask, "On what account?" On account of this: that the LORD has borne witness between you and the wife of your youth, with whom you have dealt treacherously, though she is your companion and the wife of your covenant. 15Did he not make them one, with a remnant of spirit belonging to him? And what does the one seek but the seed of God? Therefore guard yourselves in your spirit and in the wife of your youth; let no one deal treacherously. 16For he hates it, says the LORD God of Israel, and covers violence with his garment, says the LORD of Hosts. Therefore guard yourselves in your spirit and do not deal treacherously.
