1And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,2Son of man, set your face toward the mountains of Israel and prophesy to them.3And you shall say: Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD. Thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains and to the hills, to the channels and to the valleys: Behold, I am bringing a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places.4Your altars will be made desolate, your pillars will be broken, and I will cause your slain to fall before your idols.5I will give the corpses of the sons of Israel before their idols, and I will scatter your bones around your altars.6In all your dwelling places the cities will be destroyed and the high places will be desolate, so that your altars may be destroyed and become desolate; they will be broken, your idols will cease, your pillars will be cut down, and your works will be wiped out.7The slain will fall in your midst, and you will know that I am the LORD.8I will cause survivors of the sword to remain for you among the nations when you are scattered among the lands.9Your survivors will remember me among the nations where they were taken captive, where I was broken by their fornicating heart that turned aside from me and by their fornicating eyes that went after their idols; they will loathe themselves for the evils that they did in all their abominations.10They will know that I am the LORD; I did not speak for nothing when I resolved to bring this harm upon them.11Thus says the Lord GOD: Strike with your palm, stamp with your foot, and say, Ah! concerning all the harmful abominations of the house of Israel that will fall by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence.12The distant will die by the pestilence, the near will fall by the sword, and the remaining and the watched will die by the famine; I will finish my rage in them.13You will know that I am the LORD when their slain lie among their idols around their altars, on every high hill, on all the heads of the mountains, under every luxuriant tree, and under every leafy oak—the place where they offered a soothing aroma to all their idols.14I will stretch out my hand against them and will make the land a devastation, from the wilderness of Riblah throughout all their settlements, and they will know that I am the LORD.
