The Two Sticks: Unity of Israel and the Davidic Covenant
Ezekiel 37:15-28
15And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,16And you, son of man, take one stick for yourself and write on it, For Judah and for the sons of Israel, his companions; then take one stick and write on it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions.17And bring them, one to one, to yourself, to one stick, so that they become one in your hand.18And when the sons of your people say to you, saying, Will you not tell us what these mean to you?19Speak to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am taking the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel, his companions, and I will set them upon it with the stick of Judah, and I will make them one stick so that they become one in my hand.20And the sticks on which you write will be in your hand before their eyes.21And speak to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am taking the sons of Israel from among the nations where they have gone, and I will gather them from around and bring them to their land.22And I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel, and one king will be king for all of them; they will no longer be two nations, nor will they be divided into two kingdoms any longer.23And they will no longer defile themselves with their idols and with their abominations and with all their transgressions, and I will save them from all their settlements in which they sinned, and I will cleanse them, and they will be my people and I will be their God.24And my servant David will be king over them, and one shepherd will be for all of them, and they will walk in my judgments and keep my statutes and do them.25And they will dwell in the land that I gave to my servant Jacob, where your fathers dwelt, and they will dwell on it, they and their sons and their sons' sons, forever, and David my servant will be leader for them forever.26And I will cut for them a covenant of peace, an everlasting covenant it will be with them, and I will give them and multiply them, and I will set my sanctuary in their midst forever.27And my tabernacle will be upon them, and I will be their God and they will be my people.28And the nations will know that I am the LORD who sanctifies Israel when my sanctuary is in their midst forever.
