The Visit of the Magi

Matthew 2:1-12
1Now after Jesus had been born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, sages from the east arrived in Jerusalem. 2They asked, "Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east and have come to worship him." 3When King Herod heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4He assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people and inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. 5They told him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for this is what has been written through the prophet." 6And you, Bethlehem, land of Judas, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel. 7Then Herod secretly summoned the sages and inquired from them the exact time when the star had appeared. 8He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search carefully for the child; and when you find him, report to me so that I also may come and worship him." 9After hearing the king, they set out, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. 11They entered the house and saw the child with Mary his mother; they fell down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 12Having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their own country by another road.
