Chapter 23

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying.
27
But on the tenth day of the seventh month is the Day of Atonement; it is a holy convocation for you, and you shall afflict your nepheshim, and you shall bring near a fire offering to the LORD.
28
And you shall not do any cultic work on this very day, for it is a Day of Atonement to atone for you before the LORD your God.
29
For every nephesh that does not afflict herself on that very day shall be cut off from her people.
30
And every soul that does any work on that same day, I will cut off that soul from the midst of my people.
31
You shall do no work—a statute forever for your generations, in all your Sabbaths.
32
It is a sabbath of sabbath-rest to you, and you shall afflict your vital life forces on the ninth day of the month; from evening to evening until evening you shall sabbath-rest your sabbath.
