1Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help; they lean upon horses and trust upon a chariot because it is many, and upon horsemen because they are exceedingly vast, yet they do not gaze upon the Holy One of Israel, and they do not seek the LORD.2Yet he also is wise and brings evil, and he does not remove his word; he rises upon the house of evildoers and upon the help of those who work wickedness.3Egypt is man and not God, and their horses are flesh and not spirit; therefore the LORD stretches out his hand, and the helper stumbles and the helped falls, and together they all come to an end.4For thus the LORD has said to me: As the lion growls and the young lion over its prey when a fullness of shepherds is called against it, it is not dismayed by their voice nor does it answer to their multitude, so the LORD of Hosts will come down to serve upon Mount Zion and upon its hill.5Like birds flying, so the LORD of Hosts will defend Jerusalem; defending and rescuing, passing over and bringing to safety.6Return to the one from whom the sons of Israel have deeply revolted.7For on that day a man will reject the idols of his silver and the idols of his gold that your hands have made for you as sin.8Assyria will fall by a sword not of man, and a sword not of man will devour him; he will flee from before the sword, and his young men will become forced labor.9His rock will pass from terror, and his rulers will be dismayed from the banner, declares the LORD who has flame for him in Zion and a furnace for him in Jerusalem.
