1The king and Haman came to drink with Esther the queen.2The king also said to Esther on the second day during the wine feast, "What is your petition, Queen Esther? It shall be granted to you. And what is your request, up to half the kingdom? It shall be done."3Queen Esther answered and said, "If I have found favor in your eyes, O king, and if it is pleasing to the king, let my life be given to me as my petition and my people as my request."4For I and my people have been sold to be destroyed, to be killed, and to perish. Yet if we had been sold as male and female servants, I would have remained silent, because no enemy is comparable to the king's injury.5Then King Ahasuerus spoke and said to Queen Esther, "Who is he, and where is he, who has filled his heart to do this?"6Esther said, "This wicked Haman is the man, the adversary and the enemy." Haman was terrified before the king and the queen.7The king rose in his anger from the wine feast to the palace garden, while Haman stood to seek his life from Queen Esther, because he saw that the harm had been determined against him by the king.8When the king returned from the palace garden to the house of the wine feast, Haman was falling upon the couch where Esther was. The king said, "Will he even subdue the queen with me in the house?" As the word went out from the king's mouth, Haman's face was covered.9Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs before the king, said, "Behold, the tree that Haman made for Mordecai, who spoke good concerning the king, stands in Haman's house, fifty cubits high." The king said, "Hang him on it."10So they hanged Haman on the tree that he had prepared for Mordecai, and the king's rage subsided.
