Visions of Temple Abominations

Ezekiel 8:1-18
1It was in the sixth year, in the sixth month, on the fifth of the month. I was dwelling in my house, and the elders of Judah were dwelling before my face, when the hand of the Lord GOD fell upon me there. 2I saw, and behold, a likeness like the appearance of fire: from the appearance of his loins and downward, fire; and from his loins and upward, like the appearance of brightness, like the eye of amber. 3He sent the pattern of a hand and took me by the tassel of my head, and the spirit lifted me between earth and heaven and brought me to Jerusalem in visions of God, to the entrance of the inner gate that faces north, where the seat of the idol of the jealousy was. 4Behold, there was the glory of the God of Israel like the appearance that I saw in the valley. 5He said to me, "Son of man, lift your eyes toward the north." I lifted my eyes toward the north, and behold, from the north of the gate of the altar was this idol of the jealousy in the entrance. 6He said to me, "Son of man, are you seeing what they are doing, the great abominations that the house of Israel is doing here to remove from my sanctuary? You will still return; you will see great abominations." 7He brought me to the entrance of the court. I saw, and behold, one hole in the wall. 8He said to me, "Son of man, dig in the wall." I dug in the wall, and behold, one entrance. 9He said to me, "Come and see the bad abominations that they are doing here." 10I came and I saw, and behold, every pattern of creeping thing and animal of detestation and every idol of the house of Israel engraved upon the wall all around. 11Seventy men from the elders of the house of Israel, and Jaazaniah son of Shaphan, were standing in their midst, standing before their face, and each man had his censer in his hand, and the odour of the cloud of the incense was rising. 12He said to me, "Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each man in the chambers of his figure? For they are saying, 'The LORD does not see us; the LORD has forsaken the land.'" 13He said to me, "You will still return; you will see great abominations that they are doing." 14He brought me to the entrance of the gate of the house of the LORD that is toward the north, and behold, the women were dwelling there, weeping for Tammuz. 15He said to me, "Son of man, have you seen? You will still return; you will see great abominations from these." 16He brought me to the inner court of the house of the LORD, and behold, at the entrance of the temple of the LORD, between the hall and the altar, about twenty-five men had their backs toward the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the east, and they were bowing toward the east to the sun. 17He said to me, "Son of man, is it a light thing for the house of Judah to do the abominations that they did here? For they have filled the land with violence and have returned to provoke me, and look, they are sending the branch to their face." 18I also will act in rage; my eye will not pity and I will not spare. They will call with a great voice in my ears, and I will not hear them.
