1In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel saw a dream and the visions of his head upon his bed. Then he wrote the dream; the beginning of the words he spoke.2Daniel answered and said: I was seeing in my vision with the night, and behold, four winds of the heavens were stirring up the great sea.3And four great beasts were ascending from the sea, differing one from another.4The first was like a lion and had wings of an eagle. I was seeing until its wings were plucked off, and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand upon feet like a man; and a heart of a man was given to it.5And behold, another beast, a second one, resembling a bear; it was raised up on one side, and three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth. Thus they said to it: Arise, eat much flesh.6After this I was seeing, and behold, another beast like a leopard; it had four wings of a bird upon its back, and the beast had four heads, and dominion was given to it.7After this I was seeing in the visions of the night, and behold, a fourth beast, fearful and terrible and exceedingly strong. It had great teeth of iron; it was eating and crushing, and it was trampling the remainder with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns.8I was considering the horns, and behold, another small horn ascended among them, and three of the first horns were uprooted from before it. Behold, eyes like the eyes of a man were in this horn, and a mouth speaking great things.9I was seeing until thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days sat down. His garment was white like snow, and the hair of his head was like clean wool. His throne was flames of fire; its wheels were burning fire.10A river of fire was issuing and proceeding from before him. Thousand thousands served him, and myriads of myriads stood before him. Judgment was seated, and books were opened.11I was seeing then because of the sound of the great words that the horn was speaking. I continued seeing until the beast was killed, its body was destroyed, and it was given over to the burning of the fire.12As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was taken away, but an extension of life was granted to them until a time and season.13I was seeing in the visions of the night, and behold, one like a son of man was coming with the clouds of the heavens; he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him.14Dominion, honor, and a kingdom were given to him, and all peoples, nations, and languages were to serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his kingdom is one that shall not be destroyed.
