1Hear this word, you heifers of Bashan who are on Mount Samaria, who oppress the poor and crush the needy, who say to their lords, Bring and let us drink.2The Lord GOD has sworn by his holiness: Indeed, days are coming upon you when he will lift you up with hooks and your remnant with fishhook pots.3Breaches will appear; each woman will go out before her, and you will cast her toward Harmon, declares the LORD.4Go to Bethel and transgress; go to Gilgal and multiply transgression; bring your sacrifices in the morning and your tithes every three days.5Burn a thanksgiving offering without leaven; proclaim freewill offerings; make them heard, for this is what you love, O children of Israel, declares the Lord GOD.6Moreover, I gave you dullness of teeth in all your cities and scarcity of food in all your places, yet you did not return to me, declares the LORD.7Moreover, I withheld rain from you when three months still remained until harvest; I caused rain to fall on one city but not on another; one portion received rain while the portion that did not receive rain withered.8Two or three cities staggered to one city to drink water but were not satisfied, yet you did not return to me, declares the LORD.9I struck you with blight and mildew; your many gardens, vineyards, fig trees, and olive trees the locust devoured, yet you did not return to me, declares the LORD.10I sent a pestilence among you after the manner of Egypt; I slew your young men with the sword and carried off your horses into captivity; I caused the stench of your camp to rise amid your anger, yet you did not return to me, declares the LORD.11I overthrew you as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you became like a brand plucked from the fire, yet you did not return to me, declares the LORD.12Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel; because of this I will do it to you; prepare to meet your God, O Israel.13For behold, he who forms the mountains, creates the spirit, declares to humankind what his thought is, makes dawn into darkness, and treads upon the high places of the land—the LORD God of Hosts is his name.
