1Hear this word, cows of Bashan on Mount Samaria, oppressing the poor, crushing the needy, who say to their lords, "Bring and let us drink!"2The Lord GOD swore by his holiness: "Behold, days are coming upon you when they will take you away with hooks, and the rest of you in fishing baskets."3And you will go out through breaches, woman opposite her, and you will hurl her to the Harmonah, says the LORD.4Come to the house of God at Bethel and transgress; to Gilgal multiply transgression, and bring in the morning your sacrifices—every three days your tithes.5Offer leavened bread as a thanksgiving offering, and proclaim your freewill offerings; announce them—for this is what you have loved to do, sons of Israel, declares the Lord GOD.6I also gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities and lack of bread in all your places of assembly, yet you did not return to me, declares the LORD.7And I also withheld rain from you while there were still three months to the harvest. I rained on one city and on one city I did not rain; one portion would be rained on, and the portion which it would not rain on would dry up.8And they wandered from two or three cities to one city to drink water, but they were not satisfied, and they did not return—oracle of the LORD.9I struck you with blight and mildew; I multiplied your gardens and vineyards and fig trees and olive trees; the locust devoured them; yet you did not return, declares the LORD.10I sent among you a plague in the way of Egypt; I killed by sword your choice ones, with captivity of your horses, and I caused your camps to ascend in fire and in your nostrils, says the LORD.11I overthrew you as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you became like a firebrand plucked from the burning, and you did not return, says the LORD.12Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel: because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, Israel.13For behold, the one who forms mountains and creates wind, and declares to man what his thought has made, who makes the dawn mist, and treads on the high places of earth—the LORD, the God of hosts, is his name.
