Deuteronomy

Difficult Cases

Chapter 17
8 If a matter is too difficult for you to judge—between blood and blood, between claim and claim, or between plague and plague, cases of dispute in your gates—then you shall arise and go up to the place that the LORD your God will choose. 9 And you shall come to the priests the Levites and to the judge who is in those days, and you shall inquire. They will tell you the word of the judgment. 10 You shall do according to the word that they declare to you from the place that the LORD chooses, and you shall be careful to do according to all that they instruct you. 11 You shall do according to the instruction of the Torah that they give you and according to the justice that they tell you. You shall not turn aside from the word that they declare to you, to the right or left. 12 And the man who acts presumptuously by not listening to the priest who stands to serve there the LORD your God or to the judge—that man shall die, and you shall purge the evil from Israel. 13 And all the people will hear and fear, and they will not act presumptuously anymore.
