Joshua

Altar on Mount Ebal and the Law Proclaimed

Joshua 8:30-35
30Then Joshua built an altar to the LORD, the God of Israel, on Mount Ebal. 31He built it just as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded the sons of Israel and just as it is written in the scroll of the instruction of Moses: an altar of complete stones on which no iron had been used, and the people offered burnt offerings to the LORD upon it and sacrificed peace offerings. 32He also wrote upon the stones the second instruction of Moses, which he had written in the presence of the sons of Israel. 33All Israel, together with its elders, officials, and judges, stood on one side and on the other beside the ark, facing the Levitical priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD. Half of the people stood opposite Mount Gerizim and half stood opposite Mount Ebal, just as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded when he first blessed the people of Israel. 34Afterward he proclaimed every word of the instruction—the blessing and the curse—just as everything is written in the scroll of the instruction. 35There was not a single word that Moses had commanded which Joshua failed to proclaim before the entire assembly of Israel, including the women, the children, and the sojourner who lived among them.
