13And there was no food in all the land, for the famine was very heavy, and the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine.14And Joseph gathered all the silver that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan for the grain which they were buying, and Joseph brought the silver into the house of Pharaoh.15And the silver was finished from the land of Egypt and from the land of Canaan, and all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, "Give us food, and why should we die before you? For the silver is ended."16And Joseph said, "Give your livestock, and I will give to you for your livestock if the silver is ended."17And they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them food in exchange for the horses and for the livestock of the flock and for the livestock of the cattle and for the donkeys, and he sustained them with food in exchange for all their livestock in that year.18And that year was finished, and they came to him in the second year and said to him, "We will not hide from my lord that the silver is finished and the livestock of animals belongs to my lord; there is nothing left before my lord except our bodies and our land."19Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we and our land will be servants to Pharaoh, and give seed that we may live and not die, and that the land may not be desolate.20And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, for the Egyptians sold each man his land, because the famine strengthened upon them, and the land became Pharaoh's.21And he made the people pass into the cities from one end of the border of Egypt to its other end.22Only the land of the priests he did not buy, for there was a statute for the priests from Pharaoh, and they ate their statute which Pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their land.23And Joseph said to the people, "Behold, I have bought you today and your land for Pharaoh; behold, seed is for you, and sow the land."24And it shall be from the produce that you shall give a fifth to Pharaoh, and four parts shall be for you, for seed of the land and for your food and for those who are in your houses and for food for your children.25And they said, "You have kept us alive; may we find favor in the eyes of my lord, and we will be servants to Pharaoh."26And Joseph set it as a statute until this day upon the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, for a fifth, except only the land of the priests alone, which did not become Pharaoh's.27And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen, and they took possession in it, and they were fruitful and multiplied greatly.28And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years, and the days of the years of Jacob's life were one hundred forty-seven years.29And the days of Israel drew near to die, and he called his son Joseph and said to him, "If now I have found favor in your eyes, place your hand under my thigh and do with me kindness and truth; please do not bury me in Egypt."30And I will lie down with my fathers, and you shall carry me up from Egypt and bury me in their tomb. And he said, "I will do according to your word."31And he said, "Swear to me." And he swore to him, and Israel bowed upon the head of the bed.
