31Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old at the beginning of his reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah from Libnah.32He did what was bad in the sight of the LORD, just as all his fathers had done.33Pharaoh-neco bound him at Riblah in the land of Hamath after he had begun to reign in Jerusalem, and he imposed a fine on the land of one hundred talents of silver and one talent of gold.34Pharaoh-neco made Eliakim son of Josiah king in place of Josiah his father and changed his name to Jehoiakim. He took Jehoahaz away; Jehoahaz went to Egypt and died there.35Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; nevertheless he assessed the land in order to deliver the silver at the command of Pharaoh. Each person according to his assessed amount, he exacted the silver and the gold from the people of the land to give to Pharaoh-neco.
