Psalm 40

Psalm 40:1-17
To the conductor. Of David. A melody. 1I waited patiently for the LORD, and he inclined to me and heard my cry. 2He brought me up from the roaring pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. 3He put a new song in my mouth, praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD. 4Blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust and has not turned to the proud or to those who go astray after a lie. 5You, O LORD my God, have done many wonders—your thoughts toward us; none can be compared to you. I will proclaim and speak of them, for they are more than can be told. 6Sacrifice and offering you did not desire; you have opened my ears. Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required. 7Then I said, "Behold, I have come; it is written of me in the scroll of the book." 8I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my inward parts. 9I have proclaimed righteousness in the great congregation; behold, I will not restrain my lips, O LORD, you know. 10I have not hidden your righteousness within my heart; I have declared your faithfulness and your salvation. I have not concealed your steadfast love and your truth from the great congregation. 11You, O LORD, will not withhold your mercies from me; your steadfast love and your truth will continually guard me. 12For evils have encompassed me beyond number; my iniquities have overtaken me so that I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart has failed me. 13Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me; O LORD, make haste to help me. 14Let those who seek my life to snatch it away be put to shame and confusion altogether; let those who delight in my hurt be turned back and brought to dishonor. 15Let them be appalled because of their shame who say to me, "Aha, Aha!" 16May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation say continually, "The LORD be magnified!" 17As for me, I am poor and needy, but the LORD takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God.
