1Many days after the LORD had given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, Joshua had grown old, advanced in years.2Joshua called to all Israel, to its elders, to its heads, to its judges, and to its officials, and he said to them, "I am old, advanced in years."3You have seen all that the LORD your God did to all these nations before you, for the LORD your God, he is the one fighting for you.4See, I have caused these remaining nations to fall to you as an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan and all the nations that I have cut off, and the Great Sea at the entrance of the sun.5The LORD your God, he will thrust them out from before you and dispossess them from before you, and you will possess their land, just as the LORD your God spoke to you.6Be very strong to keep and to do all that is written in the scroll of the instruction of Moses, lest you turn aside from it to the right or to the left.7Lest you come among these remaining nations that are with you, and lest you make mention of the name of their gods, swear by them, serve them, or bow down to them.8Instead, hold fast to the LORD your God, as you have done to this day.9The LORD has dispossessed before you great and mighty nations, and you, no man has stood before you to this day.10One man from you will pursue a thousand, for the LORD your God, he is the one fighting for you, just as he spoke to you.11Be very careful for your souls to love the LORD your God.12For if you turn back and cling to the remnant of these nations that remain with you, and intermarry with them, and come among them, and they among you,13Know for certain that the LORD your God will not continue to dispossess these nations from before you, and they will become for you a snare and a trap, and a scourge on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land that the LORD your God has given you.14Behold, I am going today in the way of all the earth, and you know with all your heart and with all your soul that not one word has fallen of all the good words that the LORD your God spoke concerning you; all have come to you; not one word has fallen from us.15Therefore, just as every good word the LORD your God spoke to you has come upon you, so the LORD will bring upon you every bad word until he has destroyed you from this good land that the LORD your God has given you.16If you transgress the covenant of the LORD your God that he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and you will perish quickly from the good land that he has given you.
