1The heads of the fathers of the family of the sons of Gilead son of Machir son of Manasseh, from the families of the sons of Joseph, came near and spoke before Moses and before the leaders, the heads of fathers, to the sons of Israel.2They said, "My lord commanded the LORD to give the land as an inheritance by lot to the sons of Israel, and my lord was commanded by the LORD to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother to his daughters."3If they become wives to one of the sons of the tribes of the sons of Israel, their inheritance will be diminished from the inheritance of our fathers and will be added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they belong, and it will be diminished from the allotted portion of our inheritance.4When the jubilee comes for the sons of Israel, their inheritance will be added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they belong, and their inheritance will be diminished from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.5Moses commanded the sons of Israel according to the mouth of the LORD, saying, "The tribe of the sons of Joseph speaks rightly."6This is the word which the LORD commanded concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, "They shall marry whomever is pleasing in their eyes, provided they marry within the family of the tribe of their father."7No inheritance among the sons of Israel shall pass from one tribe to another tribe, for each man of the sons of Israel shall hold fast to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.8Every daughter who possesses an inheritance from the tribes of the sons of Israel shall marry within one family of the tribe of her father, so that the sons of Israel may each possess the inheritance of his fathers.9No inheritance shall pass from one tribe to another tribe, for the tribes of the sons of Israel shall each hold fast to his inheritance.10Just as the LORD commanded Moses, so the daughters of Zelophehad did.11Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, married the sons of their uncles.12They married from the families of the sons of Manasseh son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained with the tribe of the family of their father.13These are the commandments and the justices which the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses to the sons of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.
