Shemaiah's Letter and Its Condemnation

Jeremiah 29:24-32
24And to Shemaiah the Nehelamite you shall say: 25Thus said the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, saying: Because you sent scrolls in your name to all the people who are in Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying: 26The LORD appointed you priest in place of Jehoiada the priest, to be overseers in the house of the LORD over every madman who prophesies, and you shall put him in the stocks and in the collar. 27And now, why have you not rebuked Jeremiah the Anathothite, who prophesies to you? 28For he has sent to us in Babylon, saying: It is long; build houses and live in them, plant gardens and eat their fruit. 29And Zephaniah the priest read this scroll in the hearing of Jeremiah the prophet. 30Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying: 31Send to all the exiles, saying: Thus said the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelam: Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you although I did not send him, and he has caused you to trust in a lie, 32therefore thus said the LORD: Behold, I am about to punish Shemaiah the Nehelam and his offspring; none of them shall remain among this people to dwell here, nor shall any of them see the good that I will do for my people, declares the LORD, because he has spoken rebellion against the LORD.
