4David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus), and the Jebusite inhabitants of the land were there.5The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, "You shall not come in here." But David captured the stronghold of Zion, which is the city of David.6David said, "Whoever strikes down a Jebusite first shall be head and commander." Joab son of Zeruiah went up first and became head.7David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore they called it the city of David.8He built the city around from the Millo and as far as the surrounding area, and Joab restored the remnant of the city.9David went on going and becoming great, and the LORD of Hosts was with him.
