The Fourth Plague: Flies

Exodus 8:20-32
20The LORD said to Moses, Rise early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh. Behold, he is coming out to the water, and you shall say to him, Thus says the LORD: Let my people go, that they may serve me. 21For if you refuse to let my people go, behold, I will send the swarm upon you and upon your servants and upon your people and upon your houses, and the houses of the Egyptians shall be filled with the swarm, and also the land on which they stand. 22I will set apart on that day the land of Goshen, where my people stand, so that the swarm will not be there, in order that you may know that I am the LORD in the midst of the land. 23I will set a redemption between my people and your people; tomorrow this sign shall be. 24The LORD did so, and a heavy swarm came into Pharaoh's house and the house of his servants and into all the land of Egypt, and the land was ruined because of the swarm. 25Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, Go and sacrifice to your God in the land. 26Moses said, It is not fitting to do so, because the abomination of the Egyptians we sacrifice to the LORD our God. If we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, will they not stone us? 27We must go a three days' journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the LORD our God as he has told us. 28Pharaoh said, I will let you go and sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness, provided that you do not go very far. Pray for me. 29Moses said, Behold, I am going out from you and will pray to the LORD, and tomorrow the swarm will depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; only let Pharaoh not deceive again by refusing to let the people go to sacrifice to the LORD. 30Moses went out from Pharaoh and prayed to the LORD. 31The LORD did according to the word of Moses, and the swarm departed from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; not one remained. 32Pharaoh hardened his heart also on this occasion and did not let the people go.
